Best Pet Subscription Boxes: Great for Dogs, Thin for Cats

Dogs Are Well Served. Cats Are Not.

Pets is the strongest category we rate. It holds two of the four Editor’s Choice badges on the entire site, and seven of its nine boxes score 4.2 or better.

Almost all of that is for dogs. Of nine boxes, seven are for dogs and two are for cats, and both cat boxes are scored on fewer than twenty customer reviews between them.

If you have a dog, this is the easiest category to buy in. If you have a cat, the honest answer is that the evidence is thin and you should treat either option as a small experiment.

Neither of those review counts clears the threshold we would want. We use a Trustpilot score from ten reviews upward, so both are usable, but a rating built on a dozen opinions is a much weaker claim than one built on thousands. Meowbox’s 4.2 and KitNipBox’s 3.5 should both be read as provisional in spirit even though neither carries the formal flag.

KitNipBox is capped at 3.5 by that 2.6 score despite holding a BBB A+, which is the sort of result a small sample produces.

Four of These Are the Same Company

BarkBox Classic, Super Chewer, BARK Bright, and BarkBox Lite are all BARK.

They share one Trustpilot profile, at 4.7 across about 9,700 reviews, and one BBB file graded A+ with 349 complaints, all answered. That is the strongest combined record in the category, and it is why all four rate 4.4 or better.

It also means the trust data cannot distinguish between them. Our ratings separate them on product, not service. Choose between BARK boxes on what your dog needs:

• Toys and treats generally: BarkBox Classic, $23 on an annual plan
• A dog that destroys plush toys: Super Chewer, $29
• Dental care specifically: BARK Bright, $22
• A smaller monthly treat: BarkBox Lite, $14.99

One caveat on that A+ that we flag everywhere it appears: the same BBB profile shows customer reviews averaging 1.2 out of 5. The grade reflects that BARK answers complaints, not that complainants left satisfied. The recurring themes are billing after cancellation rather than the toys.

Fresh Food Is a Different Purchase

The Farmer’s Dog and Ollie both rate 4.6, the highest in the category, and they are not really competing with the toy boxes. They are replacing your dog’s food, at $60 to $90 a month and up, which is a far larger and more permanent commitment than a monthly toy.

Their records diverge in a way worth knowing. The Farmer’s Dog holds a BBB A+ with accreditation but a Trustpilot score of only 3.9. Ollie holds a much stronger 4.6 across more than 11,000 reviews but a BBB grade of B without accreditation.

Ollie is also the more flexible of the two. It sells Fresh, Half Fresh, Baked, and Mixed plans, so a large dog can be fed partly fresh at a manageable cost. The Farmer’s Dog launched a shelf-stable line in August 2026 but does not publish its price.

The One Capped Box

Bullymake, from $39/month, rated 3.5. Its Trustpilot score is a genuinely good 4.4 across about 2,300 reviews, and owners consistently report its rubber toys lasting months. It sends more than Super Chewer does: two to three toys and three full-size treat bags, made in the USA.

Its BBB file is D-, with all 21 complaints on record unanswered. That caps it at 3.5 regardless of product quality.

The reason this matters more than usual here: Bullymake’s core promise includes a 14-day replacement if a toy is destroyed. A guarantee is only worth the company’s willingness to honour it, and a business answering none of its formal complaints is a weaker counterparty for that promise than one answering all of them. What to Buy

Dog toys, most dogs: BarkBox Classic at $23 on the annual plan. One of only four Editor’s Choice boxes we award.

Dog toys, destructive dog: Super Chewer at $29, also Editor’s Choice. Consider Bullymake only if you want the extra items and accept the complaint record, and only month to month, where it is cheaper than Super Chewer’s $45.

Fresh dog food, small dog: The Farmer’s Dog, where the roughly $60 entry is genuinely cheaper.

Fresh dog food, large dog: Ollie, whose Half Fresh and Mixed plans make feeding a big dog affordable in a way its rival does not match.

Dental care: BARK Bright at $22, which is a separate product rather than a tier of the toy boxes.

Cats: Meowbox at $22.95 rates higher, but on 17 reviews. Try one month, and treat the rating as a starting guess rather than a finding.

Before You Subscribe

1. Take the annual price seriously. BARK’s discounts are the largest we have measured anywhere: BarkBox drops from $35 to $23 and Super Chewer from $45 to $29, about a third off. That saving is real and so is the twelve-month commitment.
2. Set a renewal reminder. Billing after an intended cancellation is the single most common complaint against BARK, despite its A+ grade.
3. Match the toy box to the dog, not the price. A gentle chewer given Super Chewer is wasted money, and a power chewer given Classic destroys the box in a day.
4. Treat fresh food as a long commitment. Both services refund an unsuccessful first box, which is the right way to test whether a picky dog will actually eat it.
5. For cats, expect less evidence. That is a fact about the category rather than about either company.
