How Our Ratings Work
Each subscription box receives a score from 0-5 on multiple factors specific to its category. These factor scores are then combined using a weighted average to produce an overall rating. The weights reflect how important each factor is to subscribers in that category.

We display the company's current Trustpilot rating and review count when available. This reflects real customer experiences aggregated from verified purchases.
BBB Rating
Better Business Bureau ratings (A+ to F) indicate how well a company handles customer complaints and maintains ethical business practices.
Years in Business
Longevity matters. We track how long each company has been operating, which can indicate stability and experience in the subscription market.
Our Research Process
For each subscription box, we:
- Gather customer reviews from Trustpilot, Reddit, and review sites
- Check BBB accreditation and complaint history
- Analyze expert reviews from subscription box specialists
- Score each category-specific factor based on the evidence
- Document all sources for transparency
Rating Validation Rule
Our factor scores must align with external trust indicators. A box cannot receive a high rating if it has poor Trustpilot reviews or a low BBB grade. This ensures our ratings reflect real customer experiences, not just product quality on paper.
- Trustpilot below 3.0: Overall rating capped at 3.5
- Trustpilot below 2.0: Overall rating capped at 3.0
- BBB rating of D or F: Overall rating capped at 3.5
- Bankruptcy or major complaints: Factor into Customer Experience score
Editor's Choice
The Editor's Choice badge is reserved for subscription boxes that demonstrate excellence across all dimensions. This is our highest recommendation and is intentionally difficult to earn.
Editor's Choice Requirements
All criteria must be met:
- Overall rating of 4.5 or higher based on weighted factor scores
- Trustpilot rating of 4.0 or higher with at least 1,000 reviews
- BBB rating of A- or higher
- At least 3 years in business with no recent bankruptcy or major scandals
- No single factor score below 4.0 - excellence across all dimensions
