Spellbinders Club Kits

Spellbinders runs nine separate monthly clubs rather than one craft box, each focused on a single product type: embossing folders, dies, stencils, stamps or foiling plates, from $12.50 to $27.50, with an All-Clubs Crate at $130. The tools are genuinely good value against company-stated retail, but three things need saying: skipping a month is explicitly not available, shipping is unpublished for the eight clubs under the $100 free-shipping threshold, and BBB grades the company F with both complaints unanswered. A die-cutting machine is required and not included.

What’s Included

Spellbinders does not sell one craft box. It sells nine clubs, each built around a single tool type, and you subscribe only to the ones you use. Each club sends two exclusive items a month that are not available in the main catalogue.

The company publishes retail values for some of these: the small die set at $30, the large at $40, and the All-Clubs Crate at $315. Those are its own valuations, as always in this category, but the ratio is better than most subscription boxes manage.

The All-Clubs Crate bundles three die sets, two embossing folders, a stamp and die set, a Press & Foil plate, stencils, two bonus dies or plates, a curated ten-pack of paper, a 15% everyday member discount, early access, and a free monthly shipping coupon.

Pricing Plans

There is a real gap in the published pricing that affects almost every subscriber.

Spellbinders gives free US shipping only on orders of $100 or more. Eight of the nine clubs cost less than that, and the shipping policy states only that the rate depends on weight, dimension and distance. No figure is published.

So for every club except the All-Clubs Crate, the price you see is not the price you pay, and we cannot tell you what the difference is. The strongest evidence that it matters is that the $130 Crate lists a free monthly shipping coupon among its benefits.

International shipping is available through USPS, FedEx or UPS with rates shown at checkout, and customers pay duties and VAT.

How It Works

Enrolment is windowed. You can only join a club between the 6th and the 27th of a month, billing happens immediately on enrolment, and every membership then renews on the 5th. Member changes are accepted only between the 1st and the 4th.

Then comes the single most important thing to know, and it is unusual enough that it deserves saying plainly.

The club FAQ states it directly: skipping a month is not available. The alternative Spellbinders offers is to cancel and rejoin.

A one-month pause is available, and cancelling is genuinely self-service through the account area, using the Loop Subscriptions portal. Both must happen at least 48 hours before the 5th.

For a craft subscription this matters more than it might elsewhere. Craft supplies accumulate, and the usual way to manage that is skipping a month when you have a backlog. Here the choice is to take the box or leave the club.

The Service Record

BBB grades Spellbinders Paper Arts, LLC an F, and states the reason as failure to respond to both complaints on file. Two complaints is a very small number for a company of this age, so the grade reflects a neglected process rather than a flood of unhappy customers.

Its Trustpilot profile is more concerning in shape than in score. It sits at 2.2 out of 5 across 29 reviews, and three details matter: the profile is on the legacy spellbinderspaperarts.com domain that now redirects, it is unclaimed by the company, and 73% of its reviews are one star. The recurring themes are shipping delays of two to three weeks, unresponsive support, and refusal to cancel orders that had not yet shipped.

Twenty-nine reviews is a limited sample and we label it as such. But an unclaimed profile with no history of the company soliciting reviews, at 2.2, alongside an F for non-response, is two independent sources describing the same problem: the products arrive slowly and nobody answers.

Under our rules a BBB grade of D or F caps a box at 3.5, and a Trustpilot score below 3.0 caps it independently. Spellbinders triggers both.

Who It’s For

This suits people who already do papercraft, already own a die-cutting machine, and want a steady supply of one specific tool type at better than retail. The specialisation is the appeal: a cardmaker who uses dies and never touches stencils can subscribe to exactly that.

It is a poor fit for beginners, because no machine is included and the clubs assume you know what to do with a stitching die. It is also a poor fit for anyone who needs to pause around a busy month, since skipping does not exist.

What We Would Do

Subscribe to one club, not several, until you have seen how quickly deliveries arrive, because delivery speed is the dominant complaint.

Work out the delivered cost by placing an order and reading the shipping line before you commit, since the published price excludes it.

And if you want the All-Clubs Crate, note that at $130 it clears the free-shipping threshold and includes a shipping coupon, which makes it the only club where the advertised price is the real one.

How It Compares

Against Adults & Crafts, these are opposite propositions. Adults & Crafts sends a complete project with everything needed, aimed at people who want to make one thing. Spellbinders sends a tool for a craft you already practise.

Against Caterpillar Cross Stitch, the comparison is unflattering on service. Caterpillar holds one of the strongest customer records on this site, shown on its own page, and includes everything needed to complete a project. Spellbinders offers a wider range of tools to someone already equipped, at a company with a materially worse record.

Against Annie’s Kit Clubs, the structure is similar and so is the warning. Both sell separate clubs by discipline rather than one rotating box, both are run by long-established craft publishers, and both are capped by our rules because their independent customer records are poor. Annie’s covers yarn, fabric and beads where Spellbinders covers papercraft, so they rarely compete for the same subscriber. Neither is a comfortable recommendation, and each page explains why.
