HuntVault ships a box of hunting and outdoor gear each month from brands including Garmin, YETI, Oakley, Badlands and Tactacam, with a claimed retail value of $200 to $300 against a $160 monthly price plus $9 shipping. It is one of very few subscriptions aimed at hunters rather than at campers or preppers. Trading from Tennessee since 2015, it holds a BBB grade of A with every complaint answered. The catch is the annual tier: ELITE 365 saves $10 a month and cannot be cancelled until twelve boxes have shipped.

Each box holds a selection of hunting and outdoor gear, with the company stating a typical retail value of $200 to $300 and that members keep everything they receive.

The brand list is the part worth paying attention to. Past boxes have carried gear from Garmin, YETI, Oakley, Badlands and Tactacam, which is a meaningful step up from the unbranded filler that fills out a lot of gear subscriptions. One recent ELITE box was built around a Tactacam Reveal X 3.0 cellular trail camera, an item that on its own accounts for a large share of the box price.

That is the shape of the product: fewer items than a typical outdoor box, with more of the budget going into one or two pieces of recognisable kit.

Subscribers are also entered automatically into monthly giveaways, which have included items such as a Garmin Fenix GPS watch. We do not weight promotional draws in our scoring, and neither should you when comparing prices.

Renewals fall on the 20th of each month after your first shipment. An order placed during any calendar month reserves the following month’s box.

The $50 shipping surcharge deserves flagging. For a subscriber in Alaska or Hawaii, or anyone at an APO or FPO address, that turns a $160 box into a $210 box every month. Given that military addresses are a natural part of this audience, it is a surcharge more people will hit here than in most categories.

The Annual Plan Is a Contract, Not a Discount

This is the most important thing on this page, and it is the reason we have not scored value higher.

ELITE 365 presents as the sensible choice: the same box, $10 a month cheaper, $120 saved over a year. What it actually is, in HuntVault’s own words, is a plan that “can be cancelled once customer has reached minimum order requirement of 12 renewals / boxes.”

You are committing to twelve boxes. At $150 plus $9 shipping that is $1,908 in total, and leaving early does not simply stop the payments: the terms state that “a cancellation fee will apply if customer breaks an ELITE 365 Subscription commitment”, with the amount “determined on case by case basis and informed by promotion value and subscription length.” No fee schedule is published, so you cannot work out in advance what exiting would cost.

We have written before about boxes that bury a twelve-month obligation inside what reads as a monthly price, and our view has not changed: a commitment that size should be stated at the point of sale, in the same size type as the saving. The $10 monthly discount is not adequate compensation for surrendering the ability to walk away.

The monthly ELITE plan has none of this. It cancels from your account or by email, and it costs $10 more. Pay the $10.

One related term applies to both plans: cancelling after a renewal has processed does not stop the box you have just paid for, and does not produce a refund. To actually stop a charge you need to cancel before the 20th.

How It Works

You subscribe, and an order placed in any given month reserves the following month’s box. Billing recurs on the 20th. Boxes ship monthly with gear selected by the company; there is no customisation, no preference profile, and no way to see or swap the contents in advance.

Cancellation on the monthly plan is self-service through the subscription account, with email as an alternative. That is better than several competitors manage, and the BBB complaint file shows it has not always worked smoothly in practice.

What the Record Says

HuntVault holds a BBB grade of A, is not accredited, and has had four complaints closed in three years, one of them in the last twelve months, with none left unanswered. For a company trading since 2015 that is a genuinely light complaint load.

There is a conflict in the public record worth addressing directly. A Truth in Advertising article on the company cites an F grade. We checked the BBB profile, its complaints page and its customer review page on 12 September 2026 and all three showed an A. Our reading is that the article reflects an earlier state of the file which has since recovered as complaints were answered. We score what we could verify at source, and we are flagging the discrepancy rather than quietly picking the flattering number.

The complaints themselves cluster on one theme: subscription friction. Difficulty cancelling, charges continuing after a cancellation request, and one case of a charge arriving more than a year after the customer believed they had cancelled. The BBB’s own customer review section, a small sample, averages 3 out of 5, with positive reviewers praising box value and negative ones describing mid-subscription price and shipping increases as a bait and switch.

There is no Trustpilot profile at all, so the BBB file is the only independent record available. That is thinner evidence than we would like, and it means the box cannot be an Editor’s Choice regardless of score, since that requires a Trustpilot base in the thousands.

Who It’s For

This suits hunters, specifically. If you are going out after deer or big game and you would buy Garmin optics or a Tactacam camera anyway, the economics can work in your favour, and the brand selection is the strongest argument for the box.

It suits someone who wants the monthly plan and understands the 20th-of-the-month deadline. Treated that way, it is a flexible subscription from a company that answers its complaints.

It is a poor fit for anyone in Alaska, Hawaii or at an APO address, where the $50 shipping charge changes the value calculation entirely.

It is a poor fit for general outdoor enthusiasts. This is hunting gear, not camping gear, and a camper would get more from a box built for them.

And it is a poor fit for anyone tempted by the annual saving without reading what it commits them to.

How It Compares

Against BattlBox, the split is audience. BattlBox covers survival, camping and everyday carry across several tiers and is the broader product for someone who simply likes the outdoors. HuntVault is narrower and more expensive per box, and buys better-known brands with the money. Both pages carry their own trust data.

Against Crate Club, the comparison is hunting against tactical. Crate Club runs military, survival and EDC gear at several price points. If you want optics and hunting equipment rather than knives and tools, HuntVault is aimed at you and Crate Club is not.

Against The Nomadik, there is no contest on record: Nomadik carries a warning on its own page that should be read before subscribing to it. HuntVault’s complaint file is materially cleaner.
